We all love our pets and do not wish to see them on the street. So why would we not want to take precautions so that their babies are not on the street or abandoned. We need to be responsible pet owners and have our pets spayed or neutered. PETA says that a cat can have up to 4200 kittens in 7 years. That would happen if she was pregnant most of the time. However, there are 4 million dogs and cats that are homeless and have to be taken care of by the humane society. Animal shelters wish that we would adopt the pets that are with them, to give them good homes. The reason there are so many homeless dogs and cats is because pet owners do not practice good pet birth control. And when these pets mate with other breeds and there are mixed babies, many times they are unable to sell or give away these puppies or kittens and sometimes are left to fend for themselves.

When you buy your pet from the pet store or some breeders, you may be buying them from puppy mills. However, as a responsible pet owner, if you adopt from the Animal Shelters and make sure you spay or neuter them, you will reduce the number of unwanted puppies and kittens. Most people want to adopt a cute puppy and not an adult dog. The older the dog, the harder it is to get them adopted. Just as humans want to adopt infants rather than older children. Many of the animals that are not adopted may have to be euthanized, because there is no one to care for them.

Making sure that your pet is well taken care of and loved, means practicing pet birth control. How many of you have seen a puppy or a kitten that did not seem to have a home. Sometimes they adopt you if you feed them, but if not they wander around till the animal shelter picks them up. They are cared for, but need to be adopted. We cannot expect others to take care of the puppies and kittens born because we did not spay or neuter our pets. So be a responsible pet owner and practice pet birth control.

Pet oral hygiene is the leading health issue in both dogs and cats over the age of two. Why? Because the pet owner has not been educated nor trained how to properly manage their pet’s oral care. There are numerous myths on pet bad breath and an effective breath remedy for your pets.

Myth 1: Pet bad breath is primarily caused by what my pet eats. The type of food dogs eat is not a major contributor to their bad breath. There are many more significant contributing factors like oral health, secretions and how your pet chews. Pet oral odors are created by particles of food and bacterial changes that occur in an unhealthy mouth. In an unhealthy mouth, bacteria dominate the environment and these bacteria have a very strong sulfur-based smell.

Myth 2: Pet bad breath is irritating but if I can stand it so can my pet. Dental disease does not affect just the mouth. It can lead to more serious health problems. Periodontal bacteria can enter the bloodstream and travel to major organs and begin new infections. This in turn could affect your pet’s heart, liver and kidneys.

Myth 3: It helps give my pet human mouthwash. Most human mouthrinses are ineffective and can cause more harm than good. Many contain a very high level of alcohol and are meant to be used and spit into a sink. Needless to say, your pet can’t spit. Alcohol rinses can dry the mouth and make the pet breath odor worse. Pets need a safe oral hygiene system geared for their needs. It doesn’t do you or your pet any good to have a solution that simply masks odors.

A proper breath remedy for your pets should include regular wellness examinations at your local veterinarian and a good pet oral hygiene solution. This helps reduce plaque and tartar formation that can lead to life-threatening periodontal disease. Up to 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats over the age of three suffer from periodontal disease, a serious deterioration of the gums and supporting bones of the teeth. The issue of bad breath related to both people and pets is discussed further at the breath-remedy blog – [http://www.breath-remedy.com]

Final Hope : Gaining Control of Your Aggressive Dog One of the more dangerous books out there – Valerie Barrette – Orangevale, California USA
As a professional trainer and behavioral counseler (graduated from San Francisco Dog Training Academy’s Counseling Certificate course with honors), I find the information in this book inaccurate and appalling. The author has a garbled understanding of true behavior modification techniques and actively advocates a method that is recognized in my profession as likely to exacerbate the problem (referring to his recommendation to ‘flood’ the fearfully aggressive dog). His belief that simple obedience (taught in a forceful, confrontative manner) can ‘fix’ an emotional state such as aggression is simplistic at best. A professional who understands animal learning laws and behavior modification techniques whould immediately recognize that this book is one for the burn pile. This book earned one star only because I wasn’t given a ‘no star’ option.
You may find it strange that this book either recieves a five star or a one star rating with very little in between. Final Hope is an excellent book on handling aggression in pet dogs. That said, the ratings posted reflect a rift in philosophy of dog training techniques. Modern techniques involve gadgetry and food rewards – a Pavlovian behavior/reward system. Classic techniques engage the dog as a thinking animal, an animal that is capable of more than simple reactionary behavior. The training is based on building a relationship with the dog. To say that one philosophy is all “good” and the other all “bad” is too simple and shouldn’t be debate here. As it pertains to this book, if you are working with a modern trainer who works with food and gadgets this is not the book for you. It will contradict everthing your being told by the trainer. If you are working in the relationship building, classic method, this book will enhance your understanding of process. : The first truly comprehensive approach to dealing with an aggressive dog.The book looks first at the roots of aggression, examining the different types of canine aggression and what can cause them. It then turns to practical solutions: The physical and mental tools you’ll need, patterns of training that can head off trouble and correcting specific problems. Help in setting realistic goals and expectations, and on permanently getting control of an aggressive dog with exercises for a lifetime, round out this very comprehensive, thoroughly researched book. read more
